Will electronic pets replace real pets?

This is an interesting topic; depending on what we are, the answers may well vary, and they all make sense, but in my view, electronic pets, or e-pets, will replace, or at least coexist with real pets. Now let me explain the details.     

E-pets have some advantages: first, they are better suited for urban lifestyle, especially for living in apartments. For example, they don’t make noise, nor urge walks, nor get sick and die. Plus, e-pets with various sensors can track their owners’ health status. In addition, they can inform their masters of upcoming schedules, weather forecasts, and neighborhood deals.     

Next, I understand some may argue that e-pets are not pets but just toys. While it has a point, humans are imaginative by nature. Thus, we can easily form an emotional commitment even to e-pets, not only playing with them. This is a positive thing in many countries with an aging population, such as Japan.
