The Internal Monologue

For writers indulging in an internal monologue is possibly the next most natural thing to breathing. There are times when we are misunderstood for the same. These days I tend to lapse into silence more often than not. It is fine if I am at home with my husband (he is the most understanding guy in the world ), but it becomes difficult if I happen to be in the company of others (even my mom). Thus, for the next few days and acting upon the advice of my husband, I’ve decided to remain at home till I resume work. These few days are going to be cardinal not only for the proof reading of my first novel, but also for framing the body of the second one. All this silence and a rather laid back life is what I have been craving for all these days. Let’s hope I manage to fulfill my commitments by the end of this month. Till then let silence and the internal monologue prevail.

Au revoir ! ( Although I know quite a few languages which include English, Bengali, and Hindi, I am keen on learning French as a second language).

  1. “Au revoir” β€” Judging from your writing, I would guess that English is your first language. Your skill with written English is first rateβ€”couldn’t be better. I wish I had one second language I could use but like most Americans, sadly, I’m monolingual.

The internal monologue. Yes, I agree that it is a natural thing for writers, an absolutely necessary thing, also. I spend a good deal of time in my bedroom, lying on my back, staring at the ceiling “working things out.” I too am working on my second novel and have reached a point where I must construct the framework for the end of the first Act and also the middle Act of the story before I can proceed with the actual writing.

Writing the middle Act will help me to see the final Act better. When I began the novel, I had a good idea which propelled the writing forward easily and set the stage for what may follow. So that was easy. But I’m also thinking that this second novel might be the first of a trilogy so a lot of internal monologue work is needed to sort things out.

Salut! (I took a year of French in college. ha!)

    1. Mon Dieu ! Glad to know that you took a course in French. πŸ™‚ I simply love the language though my first love is and will always be English. Thank you so much for liking my scribbles. I hope you will like my book too when it is published. Wow, a trilogy ! That would require a lot of hard work and patience. Will definitely be interested in knowing more about it. Till then happy writing and ruminating over your novels πŸ™‚
