Certainly well known is the photo of the Hubble telescope that shows the imposing columns of gas and dust, site of intense star formation, inside the Eagle Nebula . Oh well, we have seen it a lot of times.

But now, it is as if what we have been accustomed to seeing for years, suddenly reveals an unexpected new depth. So that even the usual views take on a new meaning. As if it were a new universe, the one we are observing through the tools of the James Webb Telescope. New and very old, at the same time .

At least, that’s the feeling I get from looking at this image. I mean, do you know something beautiful, really beautiful, but that by dint of seeing it and seeing it again bores you, doesn’t tell you anything anymore, doesn’t it speak to you?

Instead, this image reopens the game . Amazing detail and depth. You see the newly formed stars inside the clouds of gas and dust. You see that there is a new depth in things .

It is difficult to do just this concept, that everything, every situation can go back to being surprising , even the most viewed, the most traveled with the eyes or with existence. Part of me says it’s impossible, part of me would like to decide itself, where the real surprises can come from. Thus limiting the realm of the possible, in a very drastic and totally arbitrary way.

Luckily there are images like this, which reopen me to new horizons and broader and more pacifying ways of thinking. I need it, we all need it very much. We all need a new creation , a new universe .

I think that getting used to considering it possible, is the first fundamental step. The remaining part, perhaps, doesn’t even depend on us, and we don’t need to worry too much.

It will happen, when it has to happen.
